Pipe Trades Apprenticeship 15/25
This two-semester apprenticeship level course is designed to prepare students for a career in the Steamfitter-Pipefitter, Plumber, Gasfitter, or Sprinkler Systems Installer trades. The program introduces students to a variety of tools and practical trades skills, while building on safety concepts and first period apprenticeship common piping theory. Our certified teacher is a Red Seal journey-ticketed Steamfitter and journey-ticketed B-Gasfitter. Aside from extensive industry experience, he also instructed at both the Alberta Pipe Trades College as well as at NAIT within their School of Skilled Trades for over 10 years.
By the end of this program, students can expect to earn a total of 15 thirty-level high school credits: five in Pipe Trades 15 and ten in Pipe Trades 25. The course covers the same apprenticeship material found in post-secondary institutions such as NAIT, SAIT, Red Deer Polytechnic, and the Alberta Pipe Trades College. It also provides students the opportunity to write their first period common apprenticeship exam.
Upon successful completion (>70%) of this exam, and a further 1560-1600 hours earned on the job, students will be recognized as second year apprentices in their respectively chosen pipe trade. This could provide an early jump start to their career in the multifaceted pipe trades industry, and will certainly add a valuable component to their resumes.
We have partnered with the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) to establish a post-high school pathway for Pipe Trades students. Qualified Archbishop O’Leary Pipe Trades students may receive transfer credit to NAIT’s Advanced Plumbing Technology diploma program. Students may be eligible for admission directly into the second term of this diploma program. This is one possible pathway for students. Pipe Trades graduates may also pursue the apprenticeship pathway.
